At Subulus Salaam, we believe that no family in our community should have to face the weight of persistent economic and financial deprivation alone. Every day, mothers, fathers, and children across London are quietly struggling to make ends meet. Tackling poverty locally is at the heart of everything we do, and through the distribution of Zakat, Zakat al-Fitr, and Sadaqah, we work to ensure that essential support reaches those who need it most, right here on our doorstep.

Tackling poverty on our doorstep

We began as a small group of brothers and sisters from East London. Initially, we served the boroughs of Newham, Waltham Forest, and Hackney. Since then, we have expanded across multiple inner-city boroughs. Today, a growing network of volunteers and donors supports our mission of alleviating poverty in our own neighbourhoods.

Our core mission is to raise awareness about poverty within the Muslim community.
Through the collection and distribution of Zakat and Sadaqah, we tackle poverty street by street.
As a result, needy households receive essential financial support and dignity.

Subulus Salaam is committed to building a compassionate community.
Here, hardship is met with mercy.
Above all, we meet every family’s basic needs with dignity.

Zakat: Our Tool for Tackling Poverty on Our Doorstep

Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is also our primary tool for tackling poverty locally. Its goal is to help those in financial hardship and to purify the wealth of the giver.
In addition, it promotes equitable distribution of resources within the community.

This practice fosters compassion and reduces inequality. It also strengthens communal bonds.

For Subulus Salaam, addressing poverty within our community through Zakat is not merely an act of charity — it is an act of worship. In doing so, it ensures that wealth is redistributed to those most in need, embodying the principles of compassion and social justice that lie at the heart of Islamic teaching.

Fighting Poverty in Our Neighbourhoods Together

Poverty on our doorstep in London is not an abstract concept. Instead, it is a harsh reality for countless families. Many lack access to food, shelter, and education. As a result, they remain trapped in a cycle of hardship. Therefore, local Zakat distribution within our community is vital.

We believe Zakat allows us to make a real difference.
In Islam, Zakat and eeman (faith) are deeply intertwined. Specifically, giving Zakat reflects obedience to Allah’s commands. It also fosters genuine compassion in the giver.

Furthermore, tackling poverty on our doorstep reinforces communal responsibility.
For the recipient, Zakat demonstrates the akhlaaq (character) and generosity. In contrast to selfish lifestyles, this support enables needy parents to provide for their children. Ultimately, it strengthens the whole Ummah — spiritually and financially.
