Subulus Salaam
Zakat for Local Families in Need
Behind London’s prosperous streets, many Muslim families are quietly enduring hardship — struggling to heat their homes, put food on the table, and maintain their dignity through deeply difficult times. At Subulus Salaam, we see this hidden suffering, and we believe no neighbour should face it alone. As a registered London charity (no. 1168638), we are committed to easing these burdens through the blessed obligation of zakat, ensuring that your contribution reaches real families in real need — right here in our community. Inspired by the Prophet’s ﷺ teaching that a true believer cannot rest while their neighbour goes hungry, we distribute zakat and sadaqah with compassion, respect, and cultural understanding across boroughs like Tower Hamlets, Newham, and Brent. When you give through Subulus Salaam, you are not just fulfilling a duty — you are restoring hope to a family that needs it most.
Providing Zakat for Local Families
We provide material and financial support to local needy Muslim households
While London is globally renowned as a thriving financial powerhouse where trillions of pounds circulate daily, thousands of families simultaneously struggle in silence to afford basic necessities. This hidden poverty is particularly evident in inner-city boroughs like Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, and Southwark; however, the crisis is by no means restricted to these locations. Consequently, the role of charitable contributions, such as Zakat, has become vital in mitigating these hardships. Furthermore, even within seemingly prosperous neighborhoods, many households continue to face significant financial strain.
The Hidden Reality of Poverty in Our Community:
For many Muslim Londoners, the reliance on foodbanks is a quiet reality. Yet, within our communities, poverty is often hidden due to stigma and the fear of judgment, leaving countless families isolated and in urgent need of support.
The London Muslim Community: Strengthening small Muslim charities across London is more important than ever, especially in a country where Islam is a minority faith.
Subulus Salaam understands the unique cultural, religious, and social needs of Muslim communities across London. By supporting grassroots initiatives, you enable Subulus Salaam to provide culturally sensitive and tailored assistance while building resilience. This ensures that vital support reaches those who need it most, with dignity, respect, and understanding.
Why Local Action Matters for the Ummah
The challenges we face as an Ummah all over the world are immense. However, one should also focus on the challenges we face on our doorstep. The emotional toll of poverty on Muslim communities across London is huge, leading to stress, anxiety, family relationship breakdowns, juvenile crime and other related issues.
Your donation, whether Zakat or Sadaqah, directly impacts the number of families we can assist.
Our work puts in practice our religion of brotherhood and brings hope whilst inspiring many who also want to make a difference in our society.

Poverty Indicators
London faces a deepening child poverty crisis, with nearly 1 in 3 across the capital. The situation is particularly acute in specific boroughs where families struggle with rising living costs and insufficient support.
Child Poverty Measurements and Zakat Impact
Various agencies measure child poverty differently. The Department for Work and Pensions uses relative poverty (households below 60% of median income after housing costs). Other agencies include persistent poverty and material deprivation.
The London boroughs with highest child poverty rates (after housing costs) are:
- Tower Hamlets
- Newham
- Barking & Dagenham
- Hackney
- Islington
- Islington
- Haringey
- Westminster
- Enfield
- Southwark
These represent the areas of greatest need for Zakat and Sadaqah support, though pockets of poverty exist across the majority of London’s boroughs.
Our Projects
Following the Sunnah of our messenger Mohammed peace and blessing be upon him, we believe that we should start looking after those who live in our neighbourhoods. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He is not a complete believer, whose stomach is filled while his neighbour goes hungry.”
